PURPOSE: To provide an airfoil that can efficiently use compressed cooling air.

CONSTITUTION: A hollow impingement baffle 38 includes a septum 60, the septum extends between baffle bottom 54 and top 52 and spaces between forward edge 48 and after edge 50 to define a forward manifold 62 and an after manifold 64. The baffle includes an inlet 56 having a forward portion 56a for guiding a first portion 36a of compressed air 36 to the forward manifold, and an after portion 56b for guiding a second portion 36b of the compressed air to the after manifold with a predetermined pressure drop for obtaining a lower pressure in the after manifold in comparison with a high pressure in the forward manifold. The baffle includes impingement holes 58, and the impingement holes discharges the compressed air against the inner surface 40 of a surrounding airfoil 12 for the impingement-cooling the airfoil.
