To obtain a liquid crystal displaying element having a small optical hysteresis in a wide temperature range, excellent in high speed responding property and useful as a display, etc., by adding a compound having a polar group at the side position relative to a long axis of molecule thereof and a solubility in the liquid crystal.
This liquid crystal displaying element is obtained by filling a resin 5 and a liquid crystal 6 between electrodes 2, also arranging the liquid crystal 6 as a shape of liquid droplets or of continuously linked liquid droplets in the resin 5, or arranging the resin 5 formed as a mesh shape in the liquid crystal 6 and adding a compound such as a chiral compound having a polar group such as hydroxyl, phenyl and fluorine at the side position relative to a long axis of a molecule thereof and a solubility in the liquid crystal 6. Further, a screw pitch of the liquid crystal 6 added with the compound consisting of the chiral compound is preferably 10-500μm.
