In a passive matrix type liquid crystal display divided into upper/lower two pictures, respective picture display data of the upper/lower two pictures, respective scanning signals of the upper/lower two pictures and the scanning signal for a data driver and a data fetching shift clock are compressed at the same rate by using a compression IC 15, and respective picture display data of the upper/lower two pictures are reconstituted as one continuous data, so as to display alternately respective picture display data of the upper/ lower two picture by every line to be display outputted.
