Abstract:
PURPOSE:To make contrast ratio high by providing an electrode B which is connected to an electrode A but is not connected to an electrode A' and an electrode B' which is connected to the electrode A' but is not connected to the electrode A on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The metallic electrodes A 112, A' 113, B 114 and B' 115 which are used also as a light shielding layer are formed on the upper substrate where a stripe state transparent electrode 111 is formed. The width d1 of a control incapable part which exists between the adjacent electrodes A and A' is set at 2mum, and the gap dAB between the electrode B(B') and the electrode A(A') is set at 2mum. Two substrates are superposed so that the electrodes B and B' on one substrate may be superposed on the control incapable part on the other substrate. Thus, even though the orientation of the liquid crystal molecule of each light transmission part differs at random in each light transmission part, all the parts other than a picture element look like a dark state and the irregularity of display or the irregularity of background according to places is not recognized.
