Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide the liquid crystal element which has high contrast in a bright state and a dark state and is high in the display contrast at the time of multiplex driving and with which a high-grade display is obtainable and an effensive after-image phenomenon does not arise. CONSTITUTION:The oriented films of the liquid crystal element constituted by having the oriented films on at least either of a pair of the substrates provided with transparent electrodes and clamping a ferroelectric liquid crystal between these substrates consists of polyimide having the constituting unit expressed by formula. In the formula, R1 denotes a quadratic org. residue; R2, R3, R4, R5 denote 1 to 10C alkyl group or fluoroalkyl group.
