PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal medium (LC medium), use of the medium for electro-optic purposes, and an LC display comprising the medium.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal medium in one example comprises: at least one compound represented by formula 1; at least one compound represented by formula 2; a tricyclic or tetracyclic compound having CFO as a linking group and comprising a cyclohexylene ring, a phenylene ring, an oxygen-containing heterocycle, or the like substituted with one F; and a tetracyclic compound having a cyclohexylene ring partially substituted with F and a phenylene ring.
