PURPOSE: To restrain the generation of the strain of a glass plate which constitutes a liquid crystal panel and to prevent a black brightness spot from occurring by disposing the liquid crystal panel and a polarizing plate in the glass container of a cooling device in a state where they are immersed in a cooling medium.
CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal panel 2 and the polarizing plates 5 and 6 are disposed in the cooling device 3 obtained by sealing the cooling medium 34 in the glass container in the state where they are immersed in the medium 34. The heat generated from the polarizing plates 5 and 6 and the panel 2 is transmitted to the medium 34, transmitted to a radiating fin 33 by the natural convection of the medium 34 and discharged to the outside. It is only the liquid crystal panel 2 and the liquid cooling medium 34 that exist between the two polarizing plates 5 and 6 in the cooling device 3, and the medium 34 does not disturb polarization. As a result, it is only the strain generating in the liquid crystal panel 2 because of temperature distribution that causes the black brightness spot. Therefore, the temperature rise of the liquid crystal is suppressed in virtue of the heat transmission of the cooling medium and the temperature is uniformized in the panel 2. Thus, the strain of the glass plate which constitutes the panel 2 is prevented from generating and the black brightness spot is not caused.
