To solve such problem that an exclusive signal line and terminal for detecting the continuity state are required to be prepared in a liquid ejector or an ink cartridge in order to decide whether the ink cartridge has been installed correctly.
The liquid ejector includes a grounding terminal 305 and a power source terminal 301, a voltage selector 45 for applying the voltage chosen among a continuity checking voltage CVDD2 lower than an operation voltage CVDD1 of a memory and a grounding voltage CVSS to the grounding terminal 305, voltage comparison sections 41 to 44 for comparing the voltage of the power source terminal 301 with the grounding voltage CVSS, a continuity state deciding section 21 for deciding the state of the continuity between the grounding terminal 305 and the power source terminal 301 based on the comparison result informed by the voltage comparison section, and a memory control section 22 which performs the controlling for reading the data stored in the memory or for writing the data through the terminal containing the grounding terminal 305 and the power source terminal 301.
