To provide a negative charging liquid electrostatic developer which can disperse pigment particles in a high concentration into a low dielectric carrier liquid of low dielectric property, such as vegetable oil, can enhance the image density and can simultaneously provide storage stability and desired charge holding characteristic over a long period of time, and a method for manufacturing the same.
The liquid electrostatic developer contains microencapsulated pigment particles which have a coating layer composed of a polymerization polymer having at least a repeating unit derived from an ionic polymerizable surfactant having an opposite charge, a repeating unit derived from a hydrophilic macromonomer, and a repeating unit derived from an anionic polymerizable surfactant and/or a hydrophilic monomer having an anionic group on the pigment particle surface having ionic groups on the surface in a low dielectric carrier liquid; and in which the anionic groups are arrayed on the coating layer surface and the self-negative charging property is exhibited.
