Title:
LIQUID-IMPREGNATED SURFACES, METHODS OF MAKING, AND DEVICES INCORPORATING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2017094738
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device incorporating a liquid-impregnated surface.SOLUTION: The invention relates to an article with a liquid-impregnated surface 120, wherein the surface has thereon a matrix 126 of a plurality of solid features, spaced sufficiently close to stably contain a liquid 126 therebetween or therewithin, and having a length scale of lower than 100 μm, preferably has thereon thin films, and has advantageous non-wetting properties. Compared to previous non-wetting surfaces, which include a gas (e.g., air) entrained within article surface textures 124, wherein, in the article, the plurality of solid features comprising one or more elements selected from a column, spherical particles, a nanoneedle, a nanoglass, and a random geometry feature that provides surface roughness, these liquid-impregnated surfaces 120 are resistant to impalement and frost formation, and are therefore more robust.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1c
