Title:
LIQUID-PENETRABLE ELECTRODE FOR FUEL BATTERY
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5679858
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an electrode which is capable of effectively carrying an active catalyst thereon by an electrodeposition of the catalyst, by adhering on a support having large permeability a specific amount of powdery carbon particles having a specific particle size together with a binder.

CONSTITUTION: A mixture consisting of carbon powder containing at least 30% by volume of powdery carbon particles made of coconut shell active carbon having particle sizes in the range of 510∼250μm and a binder consisting of polyvinylchloride latex or the like is coated on the back and front faces of a support 1 made of a platinum net or the like. Thus, a coated layer 3 is formed. By causing the coated layer 3 to carry a catalyst 4 by electrodeposition, a liquid-penetrable electrode is formed. Since this electrode has rugged surfaces and large pore diameters, it is possible to carry the catalyst even at the interior of the electrode by electrodeposition. The thus-electrodeposited catalyst plays an active role in the electrode reaction.
