Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid vegetable unsaturated alcohol which has excellent liquid retention and hardly causes cloudiness even by a change in temperature and to provide a method for producing the same.
SOLUTION: The liquid vegetable unsaturated alcohol is obtained by reducing a vegetable fatty acid obtained from at least one kind of a vegetable oil selected from the group consisting of palm oil, coconut oil and palm kernel oil and/or its alkyl ester in the presence of a zinc-based catalyst having ≤30 ppm copper content. The unsaturated alcohol having a low conjugated diene content and excellent hue stability is obtained by slightly hydrogenating the liquid vegetable unsaturated alcohol.
