Abstract:

PURPOSE: To increase the discharge potential and improve the charge/discharge cycle life by reforming the titanium compound of a negative electrode material.
CONSTITUTION: A lithium secondary battery is constituted of an electrolyte made of a nonaqueous solvent dissolved with lithium salt, a positive electrode 4 having the discharge potential of 2V or above against a counter electrode of Li/Li+, and a negative electrode 5 made of lithium titanate expressed by the general formula LixTiyO4 and capable of doping or de-doping lithium. The lithium titanate has the peak and peak intensity ratio of specific values when Cu is used as a target for X-ray diffraction, and values of (x), (y) in the general formula are specified. The crystal configuration hardly broken by doping and de-doping is formed, and the charge/discharge cycle life can be extended.
