A base unit A is connected to the utility power AC and a lighting load L, the microcomputer 1 in the base unit A controls the relay driver 2 to turn on the lighting load L for a predetermined holding time, based on the ambient temperature detected by the light sensor C and on the presence or absence of human detected by the radiation sensor S in an extension unit B. The holding time may be adjusted by using the variable resistor VR connected to the microcomputer 1. The variable resistor VR varies its resistance value approximately linearly with respect to the amount of operation at the operating unit. The microcomputer 1 converts the voltages for setting the holding time input from the variable resistor VR into digital values. Then the holding times each corresponding to respective digital value is set by the microcomputer 1. The holding time set by the microcomputer 1 linearly changes according to the amount of operation at the operating unit of variable resistor VR, so that the holding time may be set readily.
