To estimate a location of mobile wireless system concerning one or more base transceiver stations.
A first method for estimating a location of mobile system (MS) in a communication network having multiple base transceiver stations (BTS) includes: a step for determining an area where the MS can communicate only with one of the BTS; a step for calculating an average location within the area; and a step for using the average location as an estimated location of the MS. A second method includes: a step for determining an area within a coverage area where the MS overlaps two of the BTS; a step for determining a trajectory of a distance point where a relative time difference in arrival of a signal received by the MS from each of the BTS is constant; a step for determining a point where a line having an angle θ based on relative signal power between first and second sectors in one of the BTS intersects the trajectory in the MS; and a step for using the point as an estimated location of the MS.
