PURPOSE: To provide a low expansion transparent glass composition having a restricted composition consisting of Li2O, Na2O, K2O, SiO2 and B2O3 or further contg. Al2O3 and suitable for use as an adhesive used in the flame working of hard glass of the 1st class.
CONSTITUTION: This low expansion glass composition has a composition consisting of, by weight, 0.5W5% in total of ≥1 kind of oxide selected from <2% Li2O, <4% Na2O and <2% K2O (K2O can not be used singly), 65W82% SiO2 and 16W30% B2O3 or further contg. ≤2% Al2O3. This glass composition is transparent and equal to hard glass of the 1st class of JIS in expansion coefft., and when it is used as an adhesive for the glass, the worked part is hardly deformed. The composition can be used as a sealant, a multipurpose material, etc., besides the adhesive. By adding ≤2% Al2O3, the chemical durability of the composition can be enhanced.
