PURPOSE: To provide a synthetic carrier useful as a medical imaging agent comprising a low mol.wt. compd., having a fundamental chemical hydrocarbon structure and having glycoside rings of several saccharides fixed thereto in a spaced-apart state.
CONSTITUTION: A synthetic carrier comprising a compd. having a low mol.wt. of, especially, 5,000 or less, having a fundamental chemical hydrocarbon structure to which glycoside rings of several saccharides are fixed in a state spaced apart from each other so that the respective sugar residue recognition regions of a receptor are occupied and showing affinity to cells exposing the receptor specifically recognizing sugar residues consisting of glycoside rings of saccharides to a plasma membrane is obtained by fixing a large number of residues of glycoside rings of saccharides to a hydrocarbon chemical structure.
