To provide a method for improving seal adaptability of lubricant compositions especially lubricant compositions having significant sulfur content and/or a high level salicylate soap, to provide the lubricant compositions giving improved seal adaptability, to provide a method for improving copper-attacking performance of lubricant compositions especially lubricant compositions containing significant sulfer content, and to provide the lubricant compositions giving improved copper-attacking performance.
The method comprises adding and/or introducing an effective amount, such as 0.2-10.0 mass% preferably 0.5-5 mass% more preferably 1.0-2.5 mass% based on the total mass of the lubricant composition, of at least one non-hydrogenated polymer preferably olefin polymer or copolymer, such as polybutene and/or polyisobutene in the lubricant composition having at least 0.1 mass%, specifically 0.15-0.40 mass% more closely 0.20-0.35 mass% sulfur content.
