To obtain a novel lubricant which exhibits excellent lubricating characteristics under all running conditions whatever and provides a lubricating effect persistent for a long time or period and stable running properties, abrasion resistance, durability, etc., and to obtain a magnetic recording medium produced by using the same.
This lubricant has a molecular structure represented by formula I: Rf-COOR1NR2R3 or formula II: R2R3NR1OCO-Rf-COOR1NR2R3 wherein one kind of polar group selected from among amino, alkylamino, and dialkylamino group is bonded to one end or to both ends of a perfluoropolyether group. In the formulas, Rf is a perfluoropolyether group; R1 is an alkylene group or an alkylene group having an arom. ring; and R2 and R3 are each independently H or a hydrocarbon group. This magnetic recording medium may be of a coating type or a thin film type.
