To obtain a lubricant oil composition for a continuously variable transmission of a metal belt or chain type capable of attaining a high transmission torque capacity.
The lubricant oil composition for a continuously variable transmission of a metal belt or chain type is obtained by blending at least one kind of additives selected from the group consisting of an ashless dispersant, an alkaline earth metal-based cleaning agent, a phosphorus-based additive and a sulfur-based extreme pressure agent to a base oil containing a kind or a mixture of two or more kinds selected from the group consisting of a diaryl compound represented by formula (1), a naphthalene compound represented by formula (2) and a biphenyl compound represented by formula (3) (wherein, in formula (1) R denotes a 1-8C alkylene or alkenylene group; R1, R2, R3 and R4 denote each H or a 1-4C alkyl group: in formula (2) R1, R2, R3 and R4 denote each H or a 1-8C alkyl group: in formula (3) R1, R2, R3 and R4 denote each H or a 1-10C alkyl group).
