To provide a luminous tube which enables a support member to be placed in close contact with a sealing member and securely fastened thereto and minimizes a non light emitting region existing at a sealing end part of the luminous tube, and to provide a display device using the luminous tube.
In a gas discharge luminous tube (plasma tube) 31, a support member 400 is inserted into a glass tube 39. The support member 400 has a gutter like cross sectional shape curved so as to form a discharge space therein and a phosphor layer 36 is formed on a curved inner surface. The support member 400 includes an end part wall 402, having a taper surface part inclining from a bottom surface toward a tip portion, in at least the one longitudinal tip portion. The tip portion, having a ship's stem like shape, enters below a sealing member 50, formed by sealing one end part of the glass tube in a flat manner, and is welded thereto.
