Abstract:

To provide a new compound useful in treating certain metabolic diseases and diseases modulated by the inhibition of an enzyme malonyl-coenzyme A decarboxylase (malonyl-CoA decarboxylase, MCD).

The new compound has a specific structure, being e.g. 1,1,1-trifluoro-5-[methyl(phenylmetyl)amino]-2-(trifluoromethyl)pent-3-yn-ol. Prodrugs containing the same and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are also provided, respectively. This new compound is effective for the prophylaxis, management and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, acidosis, cancers, and obesity through the inhibition of the malonyl-coenzyme A decarboxylase.
