To provide a method for producing dl-1,2-diphenylethylenediamine, capable of efficiently synthesizing the product through simple processes, by decreasing a number of the processes and improving reaction conditions.

This method includes a process for reacting hydrobenzamide with an organic base in an aprotic polar solvent, a process for adding acetic anhydride to the reaction mixture and acetylating the mixture in the presence of an acetate salt, and a process for adding water to the acetylated reaction mixture, further adding acetic acid and an inorganic acid thereto, and hydrolyzing the mixture.
