To provide a machine tool capable of detecting functionality of a brake means for a movable machine part and displaying it for a user by a simple and effective system.

This machine tool is provided with at least one movable machine part driven by a motor to which a control means including the brake means, a distance measuring means for detecting covered distance, and a display means is allocated. It is provided with a monitoring means for brake effect of the brake means provided with a memory means including stored values (RW, VW, and AW) and a comparator. The deterioration of brake effect is detected by comparing braking distance detected by the distance measuring means with a value stored in the memory means, and the display means is activated as required.
