To prevent damage to a polishing plate in time of polishing, by providing an oscillating support part for supporting a glass blank to be machined in an oscillating and rotating state in a polishing process with the blank kept in a holding state.
A glass lens blank 2 is rotated by a grinding hold member with the glass lens blank 2 held by a hold tool 6, while the glass lens blank 2 is ground by rotational movement of a machining tool for grinding. After the grinding is completed, the glass lens blank 2 is set into a polishing device without removal of the glass lens blank 2 from the hold tool 6 so as to be succeedingly polished. A tool plate 14 is attached to a main spindle side to be rotated and oscillated so that a polishing sheet 16 polishes an optical surface of the glass lens blank 2. The rotational movement of the tool plate 14 is transmitted to a hold tool pressing member 18 having a curved surface part 18A fitting on a curved surface 6F of the hold tool 6 so that the hold tool pressing member 18 is dependently rotated.
