Abstract:

To provide a superconducting wire rod with excellent superconductive characteristics, and to provide a manufacturing method thereof.

In the manufacturing method for a superconducting wire rod having a superconducting core section, a stabilized layer as a good conductor covering the superconducting core section, and a barrier layer arranged between the superconducting core section and the stabilized layer for preventing reaction, the superconducting core section made of magnesium diboride is manufactured by inserting powder of boron and a magnesium material into a tube, performing drawing of the tube and all, and then, putting it under heat treatment. Either of a plate material, a tape, a sheet and a foil may be adopted as a shape of the magnesium material.
