Abstract:
To provide a method and an apparatus for producing magnesium oxide in which magnesium oxide is safely produced by repeating a step for producing magnesium oxide by reacting non-powdered metallic magnesium with steam and a step for keeping the temperature in a furnace constant.SOLUTION: A method for producing magnesium oxide includes repeating the steps of: (a) supplying steam into a reactor containing metallic magnesium in a non-powder form; (b) reacting the steam by heating the metallic magnesium to produce magnesium oxide; and (c) cooling the inside of the reactor when the temperature in the reactor exceeds a set upper limit temperature value by oxidation reaction for producing the magnesium oxide and maintaining a constant temperature in the reactor by stopping cooling the inside of the reactor when the temperature in the reactor falls below a set lower limit temperature value.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
