To provide a magnetic bearing device for enabling the follow-up of the electromagnetic force of an electromagnet as part of a magnetic bearing to sharp axial load fluctuation.
The magnetic bearing device uses rolling bearings 15, 16 and the magnetic bearing 17A in combination. The rolling bearings 15, 16 support radial loads, and the magnetic bearing 17A supports an axial load. The electromagnet 17 as part of the magnetic bearing 17A is mounted on a spindle housing 14 in no-contact opposition to a thrust plate 13a provided on a spindle 13. Depending on the output of a sensor 18 for detecting an axial force on the spindle 13, a controller 19 controls the electromagnet. The controller 19 controls the generated electromagnetic force of the electromagnet 17 as part of the magnetic bearing 17A in a non-linear form with respect to the output of the sensor 18.
