PURPOSE: To improve the exciting characteristic of a superquenching nonoriention silicon iron thin strip in a plane that the quantity of silicon is approx. 6.5wt% and to largely reduce the iron loss of a magnetic core material by forming the diameter of the mean crystal grain in the plane 0.5W2mm.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy 3 of melting state is injected by a heater 2 into metal rolls 1 to quickly cooling the alloy, thereby forming a thin strip of the alloy having a composition, for example, of 93.5wt% of iron and 6.5wt% of silicon. The relationship between the diameter of the mean crystalline grain after heat treated and the loss exhibits low loss in a range of 0.5W2mm in the diameter of the mean grain and particularly maximum in the vicinity of 1mm. The loss depends strongly upon the diameter of the grains after heat treated irrespective of the condition for forming the thin strip, and the minimum loss exists in the vicinity of 1mm of the diameter of the mean grain. The exciting characteristic is significantly improved by the heat treatment.
