Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent the erroneous destroy of information in a user area by providing a magnetic disk with a switch to show whether a writing operation test can be executed or not, reading the set information and after that, writing into the disk device. CONSTITUTION:When the request of the writing operation test is made concerning a magnetic disk device 4, the set information of a switch 41 of the device 4 is read. The set information is checked and when the test can be executed, the writing operation into the user area is tested. When the test cannot be executed, together with the effect, an inquiry message to change the setting of the switch 41 is displayed on a system console 3, and when a notice to the effect that the setting is changed is inputted from the console 3, the information of the switch 41 is read again and the above-mentioned operation is repeated. Thus, the necessary information in the user area is not destroyed erroneously.
