PURPOSE: To prevent the wear of magnetic films by impact at the time of contact start-stop and to improve reliability by alternately laminating the magnetic films and hard films to ≥4 layers, thereby constituting the magnetic disk.

CONSTITUTION: This magnetic disk is constituted by alternately laminating the magnetic films 4, 6 and the hard films 5, 7 to at least ≥4 layers. Since the hard films 5, 7 having excellent mechanical strength are inserted between the magnetic films 4 and 6 which are formed as thin soft films in such a manner, said films act as one layer of the combined film as a whole in terms of strength, by which the mechanical strength of the films is improved and the wear and damage of the magnetic films 4, 6 are decreased. The hard film 5 of the lower layer and the magnetic film 4 appear and the recording of information is possible even if the magnetic film 6 is damaged by exfoliation of the hard film 7 on the surface. The wear and damage at the time of the contact start-stop are thereby prevented and the reliability is improved.
