Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain high density and high output by incorporating specified polyester and/or polyacrylonitrile fibers into a liner and using specified vinyl chloride-based copolymer and polyurethane-based resin as a binder. CONSTITUTION:The liners 4 and 5 in contact with the magnetic layer of a discoid magnetic recording medium 1 is formed with a nonwoven fabric contg. >=30wt.% of the polyester and/or polyacrylonitrile fibers (contg. >=30wt.% in total when both fibers are used). A vinyl chloride-based resin contg. one kind selected from a group consisting of a sulfo group, a phospho group, a carboxyl group and the alkali metal salts of these groups and a polyurethane-based resin contg. one kind selected from a group consisting of the same alkali metal salts and a hydroxyl group are simultaneously used as the binder. Consequently, resin powder is not released from the nonwoven fabric, plumes are not generated, and the mechanical strength and wear resistance of the magnetic layer are improved.
