PURPOSE: To improve the crushing resistance of magnetic head by increasing the surface roughness of each floating face of a magnetic head slider except the edge part so as to prevent the adsorption of the magnetic head on the surface of a magnetic disk.

CONSTITUTION: Each floating face 10 of a magnetic head slider 21 made of alumina.titanium carbide is finished by polishing. The slider 21 is immersed in a titanium carbide etching soln. 22 and irradiated with converged laser beams 26 to etch the face 10 except the edge part 11. The surface roughness of the etched part 12 is made larger than that of the edge part 11.
