PURPOSE: To enhance durability of a magnetic recording medium by incorporating at least fatty acid amide and dibasic acid diester in a magnetic layer.

CONSTITUTION: Fatty acid amide has in addition to a function for fixing dibasic acid diester, a lubricating effect. To utilize its lubricating effect effectively, one having ≥10C is necessary, but since said fixing action is weakened as the C number increases, 10W18C fatty acid amide is suitable. Such an amide is exemplified by capric and lauric acid amide, etc. The dibasic acid diester is produced by reacting dibasic carboxylic acid with two monoalcohols, and it has high softness and lubricity due to the presence of two ester groups, and has good compatibility with resins. Satd. dibasic acid having 2W8C except those of carboxylic acids is suitable for the dibasic acid constituting said diester, and 8W18C satd. higher alcohol is suitable for said alcohol.
