PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent preservability at and under a high temp. and high humidity by providing a top coat layer contg. specific two kinds of phosphate compds and ≥1 kind of respectively specific three kinds of org. compds. on the surface of a magnetic layer of a thin continuous film type provided on a non-magnetic base body.
CONSTITUTION: The top coat layer contg. 0.15W0.55mol phosphoric diester (salt) or phosphoric triester with respect to 1mol the phosphoric monoester and contg. further ≥1 kind among the compds. expressed by formulas IIIWV is provided on the thin continuous film type magnetic layer consisting of a Co-contg. alloy, etc. The magnetic recording medium having the excellent film strength, lubricity, runnability, etc. is thus obtd. Said layer consists of the compds. expressed by formulas I, IIWV, where R1, R2 denote alkyl group of 10W20C, Y1, Y2 demote hydrogen or metallic or onium cathion and may form bivalent cathion in combination, R3 demotes alkyl group, Z1 denotes H or onium cation or alkyl group, R4, R6 denate alkyl group of 9W21C and R5 denotes alkyl group of 10W22C.
