PURPOSE: To prevent the S/N of a reproduced picture from being extremely degraded even in the case of reproducing a demagnetized tape by providing a demodulating means to demodulate a frequency-modulated video signal, level detecting means to detect the level of the video signal, and low-pass filter means to control the passing band of an output signal.
CONSTITUTION: A level detector 11 detects the level of a frequency-modulated and reproduced FM signal, and the cut-off frequency of a low-pass filter circuit 12 is controlled. The low-pass filter circuit 12 controls the cut-off frequency according to the control signal of the level detector 11. Even when the level of the reproduced FM signal is lowered in the case of reproducing the demagnetized tape, the cut-off frequency of the low-pass filter circuit 12 is controlled to be decreased and a demodulated video signal band is decided to be small. Thus, the S/N ratio is not extremely degraded or the picture is prevented from being unsightly.
