Abstract:
PURPOSE:To constitute a magnetic scale by overlapping an amorphous thin film on the surface of a metal substrate, performing laser welding along a desired pattern or pitch lines, slowly cooling the welded parts, and crystallizing the welded parts. CONSTITUTION:An amorphous thin film 2 is overlapped on the surface of a metal substrate 1. Laser welding is performed along a desired pattern or pitch lines. The welded parts are slowly cooled, and the thin film 2 is fixed to the surface of the substrate 1. A crystallized region 3 as a result of the slow cooling of the laser welded lines which are formed on the thin film becomes a section wherein permeability is decreased with respect to another thin film region 4. Thus, a magnetic scale is formed. Namely, since the welded lines magnetically constitute the magnetic scale, the pitch of the scale can be made minute, the appropriate pattern can be readily obtained and high accuracy can be achieved.
