Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform read/write operation of data without hindrance by removing foreign matter attached to a data region of a magnetic tape when information recorded in the magnetic tape by the magnetic head is recorded or reproduced.
SOLUTION: In the magnetic tape apparatus of a serpentine recording and reproducing system, when information recorded in a magnetic tape 72 by a magnetic head 11 is recorded or reproduced, it is discriminated by a processor part 21 whether abnormality exists in a reproduced signal from the magnetic head 11 or not, when abnormality of the reproduced signal is detected, tension of the magnetic tape 72 is increased by the processor part 21 and moved to a non-data region being nearer part out of both end parts, after that, tension is decreased, and moved to the original position. Thereby, the foreign matter attached to the data region of the magnetic tape 11 is moved to the non-data region, and read-write operation of data can be performed without hindrance.
