Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent the disturbance in the magnetic tape, to eliminate edge flaws and to improve reliability by providing a thickness difference in a transverse direction.
CONSTITUTION: The magnetic tape 1 provided with the thickness difference in its transverse direction is wound around a winding core 5 of a tape reel 4 with the thicker side positioned on an upper side to form the roll A. The tape is taken up toward the lower side along the thickness inclination of the tape 1 at this time and a slope of the diameter decreasing downward is formed. The tape is thus orderly taken up on the lower side. The slope is not well formed and the tape 1 cannot be taken up on the lower side if the thickness difference is small. Conversely, the force tending to bias downward increases if the thickness difference is large. The generation of a damage at the bottom end side edges of the tape 1 and the generation of one-side elongation by stronger winding at the top end edges of the tape 1 are then resulted. The thickness difference in the transverse direction of the tape 1 is, therefore, preferably within a 0.005 to 0.01μm range.
