PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of winding creases, by a method wherein a device is provided with a variable torque generating device and a torque regulating means, a cloth winding roll is increased in its rotary torque with an increase in winding diameter, and the tension of cloth winding is maintained at a given value.

CONSTITUTION: When a rotary force, generated by a motor, is transmitted to an input shaft 11 through the medium of a chain 9, the rotary force is varied into a rotary force having a given torque by means of variable torque generating device 19 to be transmitted from an output shaft 12 to a cloth winding shaft 15 through gears 13 and 14. The magnitude of the torque generated by the variable torque generating device 19 is determined according to the elastic force of a spring 24, but the elastic force is regulated through operation of a regulating lever 63. Meanwhile, with an increased winding diameter of a cloth winding roll located on the cloth winding shaft 15, the rotational speed of the shaft 15 decreases, a difference in rotation is caused between bevel gears 33 and 34, and a differential shaft 35 is turned through revolution of a bevel gear 37. Through rotation of said shaft 35, a feed shaft 54 is rotated, and this causes turning of said regulating lever 63 through a push body 62, resulting in a change in the generated torque.
