Title:
MAKING OF URETHANE RUBBER BE ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTIVE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH1160679
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the electric resistance of a urethane rubber to impart electric conductivity thereto by an easy means without causing any change in mechanical properties at all by impregnating the rubber with iodine. SOLUTION: A urethane rubber is impregnated with iodine by immersing the rubber in a treating liquid which contains 0.1-5 wt.% iodine and is prepd. pref. by dissolving iodine in a 1-9C monohydric alcohol (e.g. ethanol). Thus, the electric resistance of the rubber is decreased to 1/100-1/1,000 of the original value. The rubber is made electrically conductive by utilizing the fact that many nitrogen compds. combine with halogen molecules to form charge-transfer complexes, i.e., by utilizing nirogen compds. present in the rubber to enable the electric charge in the molecule to be movable. Therefore, when the rubber is used for a driving part inside an electric product, the occurrence of spark discharge due to frictional electrification can be prevented.
