PURPOSE: To read information on a card securely by applying a braking roller with displacing force and braking force force simultaneously by the braking roller and an elastic member press-contacted with it.

CONSTITUTION: A braking roller 36 is provided corresponding accurately to the guide groove 17 of a card and as a card 11 is inserted, the inserting force of the card permits the roller and a support part 37 to rotate on a shaft 45 counterclockwise against the operating force of a leaf spring 39. On the other hand, although the roller is rotated by the frictional force by the braking roller 36 and card 11, the braking roller 36 brakes the card 11 because of an increase in the braking force from the leaf spring 39. Namely, the braking roller 36 serves as an insertion load on the card 11 to suppress the extent of the insertion.
