Abstract:

2,5-Dichlorophenylthioglycolic acid of the formula IV is prepared by Sandmeyer reaction of 2,5-dichlorophenyldiazonium salts of the formula I, in which X<(-)> is the anion of a mineral acid, with thiourea in the presence of a catalyst to give 2,5-dichlorophenylisothiuronium salts of the formula II, followed by hydrolysis to give the 2,5-dichlorothiophenol of the formula III, which is condensed with monochloroacetic acid:
