MANUFACTURE OF CATALYST CARRIER MADE OF METAL FOR PURIFYING EXHAUST GAS

PURPOSE: To prevent deterioration of heat resistance caused by brazing material, to eliminate the need for a long time usual in the case of laser beam scanning and to perform joining with sufficient strength in a short time.
CONSTITUTION: This catalyst carrier made of metal for purifying exhaust gas is so constituted that a metallic plate 2 and a metallic corrugated sheet 3 are laminated and wound round to form a honeycomb cylindrical body 1 and the corrugated sheet 3 is joined to the plate 2 by TIG welding. The honeycomb cylindrical body 1 has such a shape that many parallel through-holes comparted by the plate 2 and the corrugated sheet 3 are bundled. In the case, the corrugated sheet 3 is desirably joined to the plate 2 in the end face 4 of the honeycomb cylindrical body 1 by TIG welding. Or a tungsten electrode 6 for TIG welding is inserted into the through-holes and the corrugated sheet 3 is joined to the plate 2 in the inside of the honeycomb cylindrical body 1 by TIG welding.
