PURPOSE: To stabilize the function of a packing agent in a short time and exhibit the required function thereof in a short time by adding a negative ion surface active agent to packing solution for accelerating the uniform infiltration thereof into the surface of the packing agent.

CONSTITUTION: A packing agent for an active ion exchange type liquid chromatography is dispersed in a packing solution containing 1wt.% of less of a negative ion surface active agent and having surface tension equal to or less than 50dyne/cm. In this case, a separation agent when dispersed in the solution should preferably have a concentration between 1 and 30wt.%, or between 5 and 15wt.%, more preferably. The column for liquid chromatography capable of exhibiting the required function in a short time after packed can be provided by using a packing agent so prepared. Furthermore, the column can be formed so as to have completely stable function, and high determination accuracy, reproducibility and durability. Also, the required total time for a packing process is shortened.
