Title:
MANUFACTURE OF COMPOSITE CERAMIC BALL FOR BALL-POINT PEN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3806964
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method manufacturing a composite ceramic ball for a ball-point pen showing an affinity with both oil ink and water ink by developing a new composite ceramic material best suited for the ball for the ball-point pen.
SOLUTION: A composite ceramic material composed mainly of mullite.zirconia with the ratio if mullite (3Al2O3.2SiO2): zirconia (ZrO2) of (50:95wt.%):(5-50wt.%) is ground to have a specular finish. Next, the surface of this ball is made uneven by chemical or physical process. The preferred chemical process is an etching process using hydrofluoric acid., and the extent of a process to make the surface uneven can be controlled by the concentration of hydrofluoric acid and etching time.
