PURPOSE: To manufature the titled epochal material by coating thinly the surface of whisker of an inorg. material with a metal, mixing the coated whisker with powder of a metal belonging to a specified group in the periodic table or the carbide or the like of the metal, and molding and sintering the mixture.

CONSTITUTION: The surface of 1 kind of several kinds of inorg. whisker is thinly coated with a metal effective in improving the wetting property such as Ni, Cu, Cr, Al, Ag, Mo or B. The coated whisker is mixed with powder of a metal belonging to the groupIB, IIA, IIIA, IIIB, IVB, VB, VIB, VIIB, VIIIB or IVA in the periodic table and/or powder of the carbide, oxide, nitride, silicide or boride of said metal. The uniform mixture is press-molded into a prescribed shape and sintered or hot pressed to manufacture a composite material with superhigh performance.
