A pair of dice 2, 2 made mainly of aluminum are used, each having a recess at a part opposite to each other for forming lumber to be worked into a desired shape, and a high temperature and high pressure vessel 1 is also used for holding these dice 2, 2 under a high temperature and high pressure steam atmosphere; while keeping open a cavity C formed by the recess of each die until the rounds 2c, 3c of each die come in contact with each other and compressing a part of lumber in a substantially unrestricted state, a compressed lumber B is obtained by performing equal compression from the peripheral part to the inner structure through final die closing operation.
