PURPOSE: To facilitate manufacture and to improve productivity by laminating and then fixing units of optical fiber groups arrayed fixedly at specific pitch so that their tips project slightly from end surfaces of plate members, and running the tips of optical fiber groups through a coating sheet material and constituting a display surface.

CONSTITUTION: Each unit U is constituted by fixing a specific-pitch array of optical fibers 1 to the flat surface of a plate member 2 which has length corresponding to the width of the display surface so that tips of the optical fibers project slightly from the end surface of the plate member 2. Units U are laminated and fixation rods are run through through-holes at both ends and fixed with nuts 4. Thus, the respective units U are fixed and then the tip parts of the optical fiber groups 1 projected from the plate members 2 are made to pierce the coating sheet material 5, constituting the display surface. Then, the tips 11 of the optical fibers are preferably spread so that projection light from the optical fibers is expanded.
