PURPOSE: To make an active material to be efficiently packed by an electrolytic method by subjecting a base plate to cathode electrolysis while stirring the electrolyte, making the electrolytic current density at the start of the electrolysis large, and decreasing the current density as time passes.
CONSTITUTION: A porous metal base plate 3 is immersed in an electrolyte, which consists of an aqueous solution of an active-material making salt and is contained in an electrolyzer 2. After that, cathodic electrolysis is performed between the plate 3 and a counter electrode 1 by use of an electrolysis power source 4, thereby making an active material to be deposited on the base plate 3. Here, the former cathodic electrolysis is carried out by stirring the electrolyte. The electrolyte current density at the start of the electrolysis is adjusted to 1,000∼ 120mA/cm2, and electrolytic current density is decreased as the time of the electrolysis passes. The electrolytic current density at the end of the electrolysis is adjusted to below 100mA/cm2. A nickel electrode is suitable to be manufactured in such a manner. The former electrolyte is preferred to be prepared by dissolving 3 moles of nickel nitrate into 1l of water. It is preferable that the pH of the electrolyte is adjusted to 1∼4, and that the temperature of the electrolyte is adjusted to 80∼100°C.
